Trauma | April 7, 2023

WORCESTER, Mass. - It was my first show of the year, kick off my 2023 concert photo season. My last show was Daryl Hall & John Oates back in October 2022, so it had been a while. Trauma was the first opening band for Queensryche this night at The Palladium in Worcester. Going into this I had never heard of Trauma before, I thought they may young, new, up and coming metal band. Well, I was wrong. 

Trauma had been around since 1981. They were trailblazers of the California thrash metal genre. In fact, Trayma's original bassist was none other than the late Cliff Burton, original Metallica bassist. was supporting their fourth studio album Awakening, which was released in September 2022. The band has only had a few albums and an assortment of players through the years that they were together, but nonetheless, they sounded pretty cool, they had a good, old-school thrash metal sound to them. 

The group’s current line-up consists of singer Brian Allen (who replaced original vocalist Donny Hillier, who passed away in 2020), Steve Robello on guitar, Joe Fraulob on guitar, Michael Spencer on bass, and Kris Gustofson on drums.

Historically the opening bands at The Palladium have terrible lighting, the openers get the dark stage and photographing can be tough sometimes. I've photographed shows here before, so I had an idea it would be rough going. I cracked my ISO up to 6400 and hoped for the best. Trauma allowed for the first two songs in the photo pit.
